School failing to improve

UPDATED...A TOTTENHAM school has been criticised by Ofsted inspectors this week for failing to improve after it was found to be inadequate' in February. In a letter written to headteacher Dr J Alexis of The St John Loughborough School, inspectors said: Having considered all the evidence we are of the opinion that at this time the school is making inadequate progress in addressing the issues for improvement and in raising the pupils' achievement.' However, they added that 'in the specific area for improvement related to behaviour there has been satisfactory progress.' The comprehensive, in Holcombe Road, Tottenham, was given notice to improve after an Ofsted inspection in February found the school requires significant improvement', in particular in 'the quality of teaching and standards and achievement.' Inspectors visited the school, which is a denominational Seventh-day Adventist school that welcomes pupils of all faiths, on October 2 to monitor progress and published its findings yesterday (Oct 17) While the quality of teaching has improved slightly with a reduction in the amount of inadequate teaching and more satisfactory teaching' there still needs to be more done with results in the 2007 end-of-year tests at Key Stage 3 and in the GCSEs disappointing and poor.'
