Harlequins scrum half Mike Brown reckons a sixth place finish in the Aviva Premiership is a realistic aim, despite enduring a season dogged by inconsistency.

Quins had to come from behind last weekend to beat Gloucester 29-26 courtesy of tries from Charlie Walker, Marland Yarde and Ollie Lindsay-Hague, and 14 points off Nick Evans’ boot.

The win leaves them eighth in the table – 10 points off Brown’s target with three games to play.

After this weekend’s break for the Challenge Cup, Quins travel to Sale, in seventh, while Wasps, in sixth, host Exeter.

Quins’ form since the turn of the year has seen them win four and lose four, something not lost on the England international.

“It has been an up and down season, we’ve been inconsistent with our performances and we are not where we want to be in the league,” Brown said.

“But having said that we are still pushing for that last European place and we’ll keep doing that right to the end.

“Sixth is still a realistic target, we’ve got to play a couple of teams around us, which helps, and we’ve got to play a few teams pushing for that top four so it will be a tough run in, but everyone is looking forward to it after a good few weeks training.”

Brown, pictured, who missed the Gloucester win, remains on the sidelines as he continues to show ill-effects of the concussion he suffered while playing for England against Italy in the Six Nations.

But after reflecting on a largely positive set of performances for England, he insists his objective now is to contribute to a successful end to Quins’ season, however he can.

“I’ve been pleased with my form for England, obviously I missed the Scotland game with a head injury, but you have to get on with it.

“I was lucky enough to play some part in the tournament,” he added.

“We obviously didn’t finish how we wanted to as a team, not coming away with the silverware we wanted, but we put in some good performances.

“Now it’s about getting back to Harlequins and making sure I carry that on and try to contribute to a winning cause.”
