Millwall keeper David Forde says there is no point speculating about what might happen to Rotherham United after the Millers were charged with fielding an ineligible player.

The Lions could be handed a relegation lifeline should a Football League hearing decide to deduct their drop rivals three points after wrongly selecting Farrend Rawson in Easter Monday’s 1-0 win over Brighton.

Millwall could potentially be within two points of Rotherham if they do hit them with that three point penalty, but Forde remains adamant the players are not thinking about the outcome.

He explained: “You have to wait until the decision is made.

“There are no what ifs and maybes, you have to stay in the present and stay focused on the job at hand.

“We haven’t even allowed that to deter us, we’ve just kept going.

“If we win our game in hand and they don’t get deducted then we’re still just two points behind, which is very marginal.

“But we could be blessed. It could be the bit of luck we need that’s deserted us a lot this year.”

Forde was delighted for Jimmy Abdou after the stalwart scored a crucial goal in Tuesday’s relegation six-pointer against Wigan.

Adbou headed home the vital opener in the Lions’ 2-0 victory at The Den, his first goal since scoring in a 2-1 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough more than two years ago.

Magaye Gueye scored Millwall’s second in injury time to seal all three points in a bad-tempered encounter which saw the visitors reduced to nine men and the home side down to ten.

And Forde believes Abdou was well overdue a goal and it was fitting that he scored in such an important game.

The keeper joked: “It’s about time! I’m absolutely delighted for him, he loves it here at this club.

“He’s scored some important, well, one important goal, and I was there that night at Elland Road when he scored in the semi-finals of the play-offs to get us to Wembley.

“Hopefully he can look back this year if we stay up and look back at big, big moments and that’s certainly one of them.”

Forde added: “Neil (Harris) has brought a bit of resilience back into the team and that’s what the club was all about - being resilient in times of adversity.

“That’s certainly the case at the moment.

“Jimmy has summed that up. He’s come in, scored a fantastic goal and Neil has brought that back into the side as well.”

The Wigan victory was Harris’ second in charge at home since he replaced Ian Holloway, with Forde confident they have finally put their woeful form in SE16 behind them.

He said: “We’re tough to beat and turned The Den into a fortress again.

“Before teams didn’t like coming here and all of a sudden we’ve got it rocking again it’s starting to turn into the place of old.”

With several of the players’ futures up in the air and not knowing where they will be playing their football next season, Forde admitted it can be tough to stay focused.

The keeper said: “I’m sure it is difficult for players but you just have to stay in the moment.

“You’ve got to stay involved in the game. You can’t be getting involved with the scoreline or what’s going on around you, once you start doing that you’re in trouble.

“We’ve managed to control that over the last few weeks and just get really focused and concentrated on the job at hand.”
