Boss Paul Doswell has admitted that Sutton United do not have the infrastructure to reach or survive in the Conference Premier, but he also believes a new three-pronged plan will change that.

At a fans' forum on Tuesday night, Doswell, with chairman Bruce Elliott and former United winger Marvin Williams, announced season ticket offers designed to bring new fans to Gander Green Lane.

The trio also announced that a planning application for a £500,000 3G pitch will be submitted to Sutton Council next week – with the hope it will be installed in time for next season.

In combination with the launch of the Sutton United Football Academy, announced last week, Doswell believes the triple whammy will push United to greater heights.

He said: “It all starts with the 3G pitch. It will lead to an enormous amount of community use, and from that you’d expect people to get more interested in the club, and hopefully improve the crowds.

“I hope that in a few years, we’ll have a new fanbase on top of the already fantastic fanbase we have and will always have.”

He added: “With the season ticket offer, we’ve worked it out that two adults and two children can come to a game for £10.

“When you see prices in the Championship or Premier League, what we’re offering we hope will bring families back to this football club and fill this famous ground back up.”

It has been a tough season at the Lane, dogged by injuries, poor form and back-room reshuffles.

Doswell threw in the towel on the Conference South season before last weekend’s 1-0 win at Staines.

However, the old frailties returned against Bromley on Tuesday night when two soft second half goals, scored by former United favourite Jamie Slabber, over-turned Bedsente Gomis’ opener to gift the league leaders all three points.

Doswell said: “The Bromley game sums up our season really. I’ve had 14 out of 15 half-decent seasons, but this has been difficult on the football front.

“But I have always known that this club was not ready in any capacity to go up, but I do believe the announcements we’ve made will give us a financial base from which to build a well-run football club that could compete in the Conference Premier.

“That was always the aim, to have that base to work from and that is what this is going to achieved.”

The cash for the 3G pitch is beinh stumped up by Doswell in the form of an interest free loan over 10 years.

That, and the money already pumped into the club in Doswell's seven years at the club, led Elliott to tell the forum: "Chelsea may believe they have the special one in Jose Mourinho, but I can tell them we have the real special one here."

Doswell responded: "If you look that our position in the league [13th], then you can see I'm not that special."
