Leyton Orient head coach Fabio Liverani felt the O’s 2-0 win over Walsall was one of their best performances of his tenure but just the beginning of their route to safety.
Second-half goals from Ryan Hedges and Chris Dagnall gave Orient back-to-back victories for just the second time this season.
Whilst the win does not lift Liverani’s men out of the League One relegation zone, it does see them move up two places to 21st, leaving Orient two points from safety with 14 games to play.
Speaking via a translator, the Italian enthused: “I believe we are growing in terms of performance and I am convinced this was the same even when we were losing games.
"I think today, offensively and defensively, was one of the best games of the season.
“I am pleased with the result but I am more pleased with the performance because the results only come with performances. Three wins in four games is great but it is just the start of a route to avoid relegation.”
Asked if there was now a growing belief amongst the Orient squad, Liverani replied: “This is something I have stressed since I arrived, especially when we are talking about the transfer market in January; I think our first acquisitions are our own players. Their confidence needed to come back and I think it is at the moment.
“I think we have quality and I am very pleased with my players,” he added.
