Boss Mark Warburton hailed his players as Brentford bounced back from news of the manager's summer exit and back-to-back defeats with three points on Saturday.

Midfielder Jonathan Douglas, Alex Pritchard and young striker Chris Long put the gloss on a 3-1 triumph over title chasing AFC Bournemouth at Griffin Park.

The result came after a week that saw the club confirm Warburton and assistant David Weir would leave the club at the end of the season.

And the manager was only too pleased to see his men keep in touch with the top six having weathered a second half storm from the Cherries.

“It was a magnificent reaction from an outstanding set of players and I can’t speak highly enough of them," said Warburton.

“They have had to put up with all the shenanigans and to play with that commitment, character and quality was outstanding.

“We had numerous chances with Jota going through, we hit the bar and the post.

“It was one of those days that, at 2-1, the margins are too fine.

“You are always nervous when the margins are fine and you a playing against a very talented side.

“I have watched and admired the work that [Bournemouth boss] Eddie Howe and his staff have done with their players, but likewise you look at the chances that we had.

“They came at us second-half and we expected that.

“They pressed and dominated and we had to defend hard and could catch them on the counter.

“You saw the number of chances that we had and on another day we would have scored two or three on the counter-attack."

Douglas marked the signing of a new contract at the club on Friday with the opening goal inside the first 10 minutes at the weekend.

Pritchard’s cross from the right was half cleared before the ball fell to Jonathan Douglas in space, who turned and fired past Artur Boruc.

The visiting keeper was soon back in action, producing a low one handed save to deny Jota, wsho might have bagged a hat-trick on another day.

Pritchard almost extended the lead when his outstretched effort from an intelligent Toumani Diagouraga chip sailed just over the bar.

The Cherries drew level on the half hour mark when Marc Pugh danced round the Bees’ defence and David Button to score from close range.

But the Bees responded when Boruc was at fault just before the break when he spilled Pritchard’s 25 yard free kick to gift the Bees a soft goal.

Early in the second half both Alan Judge and Jota had chances, but neither could get their shots on target.

From a corner on the right Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser shot just over the bar from 25 yards.

With ten minutes remaining Jota hit the crossbar and minutes later saw his shot saved by Boruc with his legs after a three on two break.

Boruc once again denied Jota, before the Bees wrapped things up with a cross from the right which was turned in by substitute Chris Long.
