Brentford continued their fine run of home form with a comfortable 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Griffin Park on Saturday.

Victory keeps the Bees tucked in fifth place in the Championship, two points off the top spot heading into the busy Christmas period.

Brentford started brightly, with a determined run from Andre Gray ending when his shot was blocked for a corner. From the resulting corner, the ball was only half cleared to Tony Craig, who volleyed over.

Jota and Alan Judge combined down the right, before the former chipped into the box, from where the ball was hooked clear.

Poor defending from Rovers saw them fail to clear the ball and from the back post Jake Bidwell fired the ball across goal, with Jonathan Douglas getting a touch and turning it past Jason Steele.

In response Ben Marshall’s 25 yard free kick was wide of the left hand post.

Good work from Moses Odubajo saw him cross into the box for both Gray and Jota - back in the starting line-up - to see shots blocked.

Gray then got the better of Grant Hanley and burst through, before a great covering tackle stopped his progress. The ball broke to Alex Pritchard, whose shot was turned round the post by Steele.

A snap shot from Marshall saw David Button clutch his goal-bound effort.

Button made a smart save when Ryan Tunnicliffe broke down the right and the keeper got to the ball a fraction ahead of Marshall.

Blackburn drew level just before the break with a goal very much against the run of play when an attempted scissors kick from Rudy Gestede took a deflection off Harlee Dean and past Button.

The Bees started the second half with renewed purpose and didn’t take long to establish a comfortable cushion.

Gray got the go ahead goal when Jota played him in and the striker’s second effort found the back of the net.

Within ten minutes Jota extended the lead when he cut in from the right, exchanged passes with Douglas and slotted a composed finish past Steele.

The Bees saw out the remaining time quite comfortably to continue to maintain their lofty position in the table.
