Brentford boss Mark Warburton was not sure of the value Sylvan Ebanks-Blake could add to his squad but he has backed the proven goalscorer to pick up a club sooner or later.
The out-of-contract 28-year-old scored for the Bees’ development squad against Huddersfield Town earlier this week while on trial with the Griffin Park outfit.
Ebanks-Blake was the Championship’s top goal scorer as he fired Wolverhampton Wanderers into the Premiership in 2009, but has been without a club since leaving Ipswich Town this summer.
And, while Warburton admitted he could not line up a deal quickly enough for the ex-Manchester United trainee, he knows someone else will.
“Sylvan came and trained really well with a great attitude. He is a goalscorer,” he said.
“He wanted a decision and wanted to secure his future and everything for his family, but we could not move that quickly.
“We wanted a bit more time. It was very amicable. He is now probably at other clubs trying to secure a contract.
“We have to make the right decisions at the right time. We have to be sure. It is not just a case of adding another number to the squad, it is about adding some value to what we have.”
