Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade admits he had stern words for his side at half-time as they fought back to claim their first League 1 win of the season at Oldham Athletic.

The O's made a sluggish start and trailed 1-0 before they hit back to win 3-1. But the manager was far from impressed with their first-half showing and made this clear to his players.

Slade said: "To be honest I asked for that [character and determination] at ten to three but I didn't get in until a few minutes before four o'clock.

"We've had words at half-time and in the second half we showed great control. It wasn't a great first half from us but we managed to stay in it by getting a goal.

"Oldham were the better side for the first half an hour, there's no doubt about that. But in the second half I thought the group of men that were handling the game managed it well."

Slade added: "They didn't have an opportunity in the second half. The opportunity they got and scored from we've given them.

"We gifted it to them and it was frightening. But we got a grip and the back four sorted themselves out a little bit and one or two of the players sorted themselves out. We looked nice and solid in the second period."

Darius Henderson scored Orient's equaliser but Slade believes the whole squad will be crucial this season as demonstrated by Kevin Lisbie's goal immediately after coming off the bench.

Slade said: "His [Henderson] contribution has been massive and as I said to them in there, this season we've got a group of 20 that can all contribute. Lis has come on and it's in the back of the net with his first touch.

"That's the sort of start you want coming off the bench and we're capable of that. We've got capable players and it was great to see him do that today."
