STEVE Lomas was happy with his side’s 1-0 home win over Barnsley despite admitting Millwall were far from at their very best on Saturday.

Scott Wiseman’s 77th minute own goal meant the Lions earned all three points in what many Millwall fans were calling a must-win game at The Den.

The Gibraltar defender’s gaffe ended up being the difference between the two teams, although Lomas was ultimately happy to win ugly.

The Lions boss said: “We’ve probably played better and lost. We always knew it would be tough but we hoped we would get an early goal and get on the front foot, but it didn’t happen.

“We had to dig in there and scrap and fight.

“I think the fans were great today, they stuck with us even though it was a bit of a fragmented game.

“When you are not playing at your best you have got to hang in there, you have got to work to keep that clean sheet and hopefully something falls for you.

“We thought we had our chance when the keeper made a great save from McDonald and you think that maybe it’s just not going to be your day.

“But in the end we got that bit of luck and I think we deserved it.”

Millwall handed a full debut to on-loan Nottingham Forest midfielder Guy Moussi and the Frenchman got through a vital 90 minutes as he looks to rebuild his fitness.

The only bad luck story for Millwall on the day was the loss of Nicky Bailey ahead of next week's tough away trip to Leicester.

Bailey will miss the Foxes game after the midfielder picked up his fifth booking of the season following a dangerous tackle in the closing stages of the game.

“Nicky Bailey is now suspended so hopefully we can get either Jimmy Abdou or Liam Trotter back,” said Lomas.

This Is Local London: Guy Moussi

“Guy Moussi will definitely play an important part certainly next week, but obviously he’ll miss out when we play Nottingham Forest the game after.

“Liam tweaked a groin and Jimmy had a little bang on his knee, just an impact one, and we are hoping he will be back maybe Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

“Barnsley were on a decent little run themselves and so it was never going to be easy, as they are fighting for their lives, so I’m delighted to get the win.”
