Don't book your summer holidays just yet – if Kevin Lisbie’s reported wish of an end-of-season visit to the new Wembley is fulfilled.

Despite lagging ten points behind the top seven with only 11 games remaining, who would bet against our hopefully fit-for-the-rest-of-the-season striker leading us into the Championship come late May?

Enough of the dreaming! But, having all but secured our League One status in the only the first weekend of March – after all last year it went right down to the proverbial wire after Wycombe imploded at the right time for us – it’s now a case of ‘onwards and upwards’.

The gaffer talked about us enjoying our football at the moment after our massive Bournemouth home win – and so should the oft-long suffering Orient faithful.

Indeed, we have almost identical situations at both the top and bottom of the table. It must be stressful being – say – a Pompey or Hartlepool fan, as both clubs are probably one defeat away from facing an almost certain drop, whilst clubs like Tranmere and Bournemouth must be wondering whether they have peaked too early and whilst promotion may be out of the question, even the play-offs could be a tall order.

So, where does that leave Orient? As I have said, instead of looking down the table, it a case of now seeing where these last few games take us and if the play-offs are out of the question, then it’s a case of finishing as high in the table as possible and hoping the momentum can carry us on to next season.

It will certainly be a reason for us holding on to what we’ve got in terms of playing staff. For once, there seems to be competition throughout the squad and even though our goals ‘for’ column could do with a boost – three at the weekend was definitely a shot in the arm – a fully fit strike force with four experienced front men to pick from must be any manager’s dream.

Fortunately, the O’s seem to have firmly put the Southend Johnstone’s Paint Trophy exit firmly behind them, if the performances and results against Sheffield United and Bournemouth are evidence enough, and although the upcoming trips to Notts County and Shrewsbury won’t be easy they are perfectly winnable.

And, if the teams above us continue to slip up, then who’s to say we can’t embark on another period of ‘plenty’ and – I’ll repeat – enjoy our football for once?

Keep the faith,

Up the O’s.
