LIONS manager Kenny Jackett says he doesn’t necessarily face a dilemma over whether to start with Adam Smith or Alan Dunne at right-back in Saturday’s televised game at Middlesbrough.

Adam Smith endured a torrid opening 45 minutes against Peterborough’s George Boyd and was replaced by Dunne at the break.

Things didn’t exactly get much better in the second period for Dunne or Millwall, as a Boyd-inspired Posh side ran out convincing 5-1 victors.

But with left-back Shane Lowry sent off and now suspended following his second half dismissal in the rout, Jackett denied it was a tough one to call who would start between Adam Smith and Dunne with another position having to be filled.

“Not really,” the Millwall boss replied.

“What we have to do is find a back four which can keep some clean sheets.

“After a 5-1 defeat you are looking at that first as a manager to try and give yourself a solid base.

“Shane Lowry is suspended now, with his sending off on Tuesday kind of compounding a bad night all round for us, so in terms of the full-back positions it might be the case where both (Dunne and Adam Smith) are needed to play.

“Peterborough deserved to beat us, they were very clinical in their finishing.

“From their first four shots they scored four goals.

“We had a lot of the ball but didn’t do enough with it.”

Jackett added: “We didn’t have enough punch and the more we chased the game, the better Peterborough were on the break.

“Boyd was outstanding down the left and I’ve got to say so was Tomlin as well.

“They got into the space and always looked like scoring.

“It was a very good counter attacking performance by them and a disappointing home result by us.

“The Championship is a tough division and it is a tough division for us.

“We are one of the smaller clubs in it and of course we would like to win more games.

“You are always looking for your home form to be good because it is an important thing.

“Certainly nobody wants to lose 5-1.

“When you lose a game like that you want to get back out there as soon as possible and we’ve got that opportunity at Middlesbrough on Saturday to get back out there very quickly.

“For myself as a manager, the game can’t come quickly enough.”

One good bit of good news for the Den manager is the anticipated return to central defence of influential skipper Danny Shittu.

Jacket said: “Danny Shittu should be OK.

“We will see in training today and tomorrow but he was OK yesterday.

“With his experience he has done well for us this year and pulled the back four together.

“To some degree he has led the team as well.”
