Lee Cook is confident about signing a new deal at Leyton Orient within the next 24 hours after his contract expired today.

The former Watford and Queens Park Rangers winger netted a late equaliser for the O’s at Brentford on Tuesday night, which was his final game before his five-month contract expired.

But the 30-year-old will hold discussions with the club and sounded optimistic about remaining with Orient for the rest of this season.

Cook said: “It’s up on Thursday and I’m speaking to them and hopefully we can get something sorted before the weekend. I think we’ll know more tomorrow (Thursday) so I’m going to sit down with them and hopefully get it sorted before Saturday.”

Martin Rowlands’ contract also ends on Sunday and the pair showed their importance to the side with both goals in the midweek draw at Griffin Park. Cook insists the midfielders both want to stay at Brisbane Road and have enjoyed their time at the League One club.

Cook, who is hoping his form for the O’s can help him land him a return to the Championship, said: “He’s [Rowlands] basically in the same situation as me. We’re both going to sit down on Thursday and see if we can come to an agreement.

“Like I said, hopefully the club can sort it out and get it signed up because we both enjoy it here and enjoy playing football here. I’ve still got ambitions of playing higher. If I get a full season and show people that I’m back then that’s what I’ve got to do.

“I’m thankful to them for giving me the chance this year but obviously I still want to play in the Championship and have a go at it. But we’ll wait and see and hopefully we’ll get this signed and sorted and I can play another 18-odd games and get 40 games under my belt this year.”

Cook marked his first game at Brentford with a goal and admitted he’s enjoying playing regular football after several seasons which have been ruined by injuries.

The O’s played their seventh game of the year on Tuesday and there is no end in sight to the run of fixtures in both the league and the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

The former Fulham attacker said: “That’s the thing with this division. I’ve never known anything like it. A lot of my pals in the Championship are now on holiday on training camps abroad and we’re playing Saturday and Tuesday every week after the cancelled games. But that’s what you want to be doing, playing football. I’ve had some bad injuries over my career so now I’m playing week in week out I love it.

“I just want to keep it going but we have to take that performance into Saturday because the camp is confident, so bring on Notts County.”

Tuesday's draw marked the first appearance in his second spell at the club for Elliot Omozusi following his release from prison. Cook, who was a team-mate of his at Craven Cottage, has welcomed him back into the squad after his return to Orient.

“I knew him [Omozusi] from my Fulham days. He’s a great kid and it’s shocking what happened to him really. It’s great to have him back and he’s been training with us for the last couple of months so he’s fit and was ready to come on.

“We’ve just said to him in there welcome back and we’re looking to the future now for him and I think he’ll have a bright future.”
