We must be glad that we probably won’t be facing Doncaster Rovers again this season. We just weren’t a match for a side that must be favourites to make an immediate return to the Championship via automatic promotion – and it was a meek showing with Rovers barely getting out of bottom gear all afternoon.

Allied to the gaffer making wholesale changes, I just wonder if a full-strength Orient XI would have been a match for a powerful and direct side that not only taught us a lesson at Brisbane Road back in October, but again at the Keepmoat at the weekend.

In one of few games to go ahead in the division – thanks to the fine efforts of the groundstaff - and even an Orient fan – the pitch was in a good condition – so no excuses on that front.

It just makes you wonder – though – why so many games were called off.

The Keepmoat staff had even cleared the car parks; so the ground was perfectly accessible, coupled with the fact that Leeds Rhinos had loaned plastic sheeting to ensure the pitch was playable. And, perhaps – fittingly - it was and Doncaster took full advantage.

After all, shopping centres are seldom shut in bad weather and there must be nothing more annoying – especially for travelling fans – when games are postponed for ‘safety reasons’. Surely, the authorities must make the covering of pitches compulsory in cold conditions. I have moaned about this problem before, but whilst most clubs seem to have frost covers, it seems plastic sheeting is beyond many clubs’ imaginations. It is surely a no-brainer.

The fixture calendar doesn’t get any easier with Brentford, Notts County and Swindon next up. I hope we don’t go on another ‘famine’ run – like the sequence of results we endured at the end of October - and the team at least pick up some points from these forthcoming fixtures.

Keep the faith,

Up the O’s.
