West Ham United co-owner David Gold has admitted he would be keen to bring former Manchester United and England star David Beckham to the club.

The 37-year-old has confirmed his departure from LA Galaxy next month and the Hammers are hoping they can persuade him to return to East London.

Gold said: "He was an ambassador for the London 2012 bid and it would be a fantastic statement if he came to us.

"He's an East End boy and it would be a fitting end to his career. We've also been mindful of his value as an ambassador to help us secure the Olympic Stadium."

Tolkny says...

Beckham previously said he would not play against Manchester United so that leaves West Ham out as a team to join.

Whereas if he were to sign for Leyton Orient that would be his real local team and there is almost no chance of Os getting a match against Manchester United,.

Plus he could still play a home match at The Olympic Stadium in Stratford as Os claim to be a tenant is just as strong as West Ham's
