Brentford put one over on a promotion rival when they went to the County Ground on Tuesday night and beat Swindon Town 1-0.

In a game of few chances the Bees took theirs and pulled level with their opponents in the league table.

After the Bees won a free kick on the right, Scott Barron played a short free kick to Adam Forshaw, whose shot was blocked by the wall.

Forshaw then broke from the edge of his box and found Clayton Donaldson near the half way line who, after a surging run, saw his shot well saved by Wes Foderingham.

When Swindon broke down the left Danny Hollands sent over a teasing cross, which was nodded behind for a corner.

After Jonathan Douglas was booked for a foul in midfield, Matt Ritchie's free kick into the box was well taken by Simon Moore.

Swindon had two chances just before the break when first Chris Martin's shot from the edge of the box was pushed behind by Moore, while the keeper again made a good save when he pushed James Collins' shot from close range behind.

After an hour Brentford took the lead when Paul Hayes flicked a long ball down into the path of Donaldson, who took the ball wide and fired past Foderingham.

Hayes wasted a golden chance to extend his side's lead when a long ball out of defence allowed him to race clear, but as he teed up his shot on the edge of the box he was tackled and lost possession.

Substitute Sam Saunders nearly made an immediate impact when he sent in a teasing cross from the right that was inches wide of the left hand post.

Despite enjoying a number of breaks down the flanks, Swindon's crossing was terrible and despite Martin putting a free header inches wide with a couple of minutes left, Brentford's defence held firm to ensure the Bees took a valuable three points.
