Watford terminate manager Sean Dyche's contract with immediate effect
5:30pm Friday 6th July 2012 in Watford FC - News By Anthony Matthews, Group Sports Editor
What has been expected all week is now official - Sean Dyche is no longer Watford's manager.
The Hornets have released a statement on their website in the last few minutes confirming that Dyche's contract has been terminated with immediate effect, seemingly clearing the way for Gianfranco Zola to be appointed at Vicarage Road following the takeover by the Pozzo family.
The statement reads: "Watford Football Club confirms that it has terminated the contract of first team manager Sean Dyche with immediate effect.
"On behalf of the club, the Pozzo family acknowledges that Sean's positive contribution to Watford FC dates back long before his appointment as manager in June 2011.
"The Pozzo family also recognises Sean's impeccable conduct, representing the Hornets with honour and dignity at at all times.
"His achievements under difficult circumstances mean that he will be rightly be held in high regard by Watford supporters.
"Everyone at the club extends their warmest wishes to Sean for the future."
Dyche was appointed Hornets manager last summer after rejecting the chance to follow Malky Mackay to Cardiff City. Despite Danny Graham, Will Buckley and Don Cowie moving on - with Marvin Sordell also sold in January - Watford recovered from a slow start to the campaign to finish 11th in the Championship, their highest position for four seasons.

One thing i do like about Zola however is his presence, he was an incredible player in his day, and a huge name to have at the helm so hopefully that can attract some young talent to the squad, which is more than likely the Pozzo's strategy looking at recent comments.
Good luck to SD, he did awesome considering the situation of the club, and hope all the best for the bloke.

Please do me a favor and get a reality check and smell the coffee !! just look at most of his signings for starters ! Zola has got to come in now and off load most of that rubbish.
Sean I have nothing personally against you and wish you all the very best in your future career.
But please stop all this sanctimonious drivel and get behind the new regime and all they stand for.
This is the best thing to happen to WFC since EJ some people dont realize just how lucky we are to get this deal.

What a load of crap you lot spout ! a year ago you and me included were begging that he never got the job, and two months into the season couldnt wait to see the back of the "great Peanut head".The results were awful and the play was of a club doomed to relegation. Then one friday night we finally get a starting line up resembling something like the one we had all been calling for and we put up a great show against Spurs, when most of us were expecting to get beat 5 or 6.Then we get a half decent keeper which once again most of us had been demanding all season and our form changes for the better. We put a decent run together and now everyone is shouting from the rooftops that SD is a legend and one of the great young managers.

Yes he made mistakes but in mny ways outperformed Malky. He also showed loyalty well beyond both Malky and Brendan.
A shame the new owners ignored it.
With regard to Zola he was a big name playe but then so was Vialli. What worries me more is Sullivan and Golds commens aboutthe mess the Hammers were in aftr a period of guidance
by Zola and Duxbury.
Maybe we have better owners and a lesser management team.
Time will tell, but do not be too confident in the short term as we may have replaced a solid manager with a lemon.
In the meantime if Zola has not been appointed who told Heaton he was not wanted and why try and keep Seans dismissal secret.
For sure trust and respect have to be earnt and to date the new ower are not scoring too highly but maybe they think the fans are idiots ad should be kept in the dark and fed the odd scrap of news that is already in the public domain, I suspect the Dyche announcment was being held back until the Zola announcement cept Heatons revelation forced their hand

I'm really looking forward to the new era, let's all get behind the new regime. People can be pro both SD and the new regime, too many posters on here seem to think that if you praise one you must be anti the other which is just stupid. Let's also remember that SD gave great service to this club as a player, and a coach and had a big hand in nurturing some of our younger players. This together with his brief spell as manager under difficult circumstance are what make him a "Watford Legend" not his time as manager alone.

Just my view - but i thought it was a dignified statement by the owners - Dyche and the team did well in the second half of the season, some key loan signings, Murray coming through and Deeney of course bloomed after his arrest. Dyche is a genuine and honest fella who has served us well as player, coach and manager- but football and football fans expect employees to be despatched at a whim - managers & players. And by the way why are people angry about a manager leaving because he sussed out a new owner.Yet seem happy to see players sacked when they are deemed not good enough? Would Dyche and the coaching team have stuck with us if we had gone into administration and better offers from other clubs had come along? We now have genuine long term owners, for the first time in 20+ years. Remember how that previous era started. How did GT become the manager? He walked out on his employer to come to us and replaced a genuine and honest man that ET decided was unable to deliver his vision. Zola or whoever, will be employed as much for the abilty to deliver the new vision as his ability to appeal to talented players and big money sponsors. The comparison with Vialli is totally wrong. With Vialli we had small business owners in awe of a manager who spent all their money within 12 months. The new owners are not that naive. By the way the GT premiership legacy was parachute money; a team that collapsed after the Fulham home defeat (remember Fulham, little club - foreign owner - foreign coach, played us off the planet- been in the premiership ever since), and a squad whose only premiership quality first teamer was probably Alun Neilson. On Monday which players are going to be genuinely excited about the new regime and which will be upset and fearing for their futures- what ones do we want to build the team around?

On Monday which players are going to be genuinely excited about the new regime and which will be upset and fearing for their futures- what ones do we want to build the team around?
And how people are lumping Zola in the same bracket as Vialli is beyond me. I think Zola has great humility, was a footballing genius and if people bothered to look had one excellent seaon at WHU and one where the rug was pulled beneath him.
I love to watch good football, and Tbh I haven't seen too much of that lately.
Good post Andrew

Hopefully got enough £ from Pozzos to bide his time before accepting another job. I'm not gonna patronise the big man with pity. Onwards and upwards for him and for us.
The future looks bright !

I am confident in the long term that the new owners wil be good for the club, but remain to be convinced we will benefit in the short term from their selected management who seem to come to office on the back of suggesting the owners buy WFC.
Lets wait a season before judging them fully just like we should have done with Sean and maybe Bas.
