Watford refusing to comment on whether Gianfranco Zola has replaced Sean Dyche

Watford are refusing to comment on whether Sean Dyche has been replaced as manager by Gianfranco Zola.

Zola has been linked with the Hornets' job for several weeks and sources told the Watford Observer last week that Dyche would indeed be replaced.

We understand Dyche was in the club offices yesterday and it has been widely reported that the former centre half has been replaced by Zola.

However, Watford are still refusing to comment on the matter.

Hardly the fiasco of Bazzini's takeover.

The club was in a real financial mess until the takeover, If someone with the history with running football clubs of Pozzo and family then I can give them a little slack with regard their first communications. Also sad as it is that Sean has gone if they want their own man so be it.

I just can't allow myself to believe this is gonna be good.
We have been cra99ed upon so often , can it really be true???
Are we really gonna be a properly run football club again, competing for promotion, finances under control, nice ground etc???am I dreaming?? I have got everything crossed that at last we can be proud again not a laughing stock.
Final mention to Sean.
Thank you , good luck, I'm sure if the fans had a say, you would still be our Manager. Make sure you come back soon so we can all give you the applause you deserve.

I agree croxley, but with all the coverage by other sources, just getting frustrated by the lack of communication by Official site and WO. Maybe everyone else ..BBC ..Yahoo ..etc are just guessing ..if thats the case, time for them to wait for the facts ..

To be fair the Pozzos are being loyal to their man. Zola seems to have been in on this takeover from the start.

If you were investing millions and millions into a project, you'd want your own person in charge. Especially if they're spending more in transfer market.

As much as I would have liked to see Dyche get a chance, feel it is better for Sean and for Watford for this to happen now, rather than in three months time.

okay, just take stock. The reason why the club is not commenting is because they want to present everything in one go - i.e. Dyche has gone and Zola is here. Dyche would not have gone unless Zola is signed, sealed and delivered. You do not know what final things are happening right now - e.g. getting the quotes right for the press release, getting the photos done etc.

This is a brand new management team, from a different country, who are dealing with the old management team who have lots of contacts with UK media, hence why lots of drip-feeding of information.

Its not unprofessional at all, its just reality when one company takes over another and implements pretty radical structural changes so everyone get a grip, relax and wait to see what happens.

For the record, I think Dyche is unlucky but we have new owners who want to implement a new way of doing things. Rather they do it now than wait until October and make the change then due to "loyalty" to Dyche. Who knows if Dyche would want to work under a DoF anyway? Zola seems happy to do this as its more common in Italy and he did it at WHU.

I know new owners are well within their rights to bring in new team for the new project but this doesn't feel right and neither does the way we the fans seem to be well down the list when it comes to revealing what is going on.
Of course I am delighted that solid football people have replaced the previous off-the-wall regime but this isn't a great start.Got to hope the line of communication with the fans will be established as soon as they have their feet under the Vic Rd table.
As for Sean, not exactly a fitting reward for performing minor miracles and converting all us doubters last season. It might be the beautiful game but there is dark side. We have seen it before in the treatment of the likes of Gibbs,Jackett etc.Not sure I will be giving MM and BR any more stick..cant really blame them can you when you see how fickle the club can be.

All I am saying is that if Sean has now gone, then at some point we must look to the future and support Zola.

If I was the Italians looking at this having bought the club from an owner who should only be approached when wearing a hazard suit, I would be thinking ungrateful sods.

Rumours are that there is likely to be sizeable investment in the club and a removal of the debt and this from owners who have not done this for one club but two! Add in the potential pool of talent from all three combined clubs and this is potentially amazing - all our christmases come early situation.

The fact that 3 working hours after the new owners conducted a staff meeting we havent been given chapter and verse is to be quite frank - unrealistic.

All speculation by everybody. I have no doubt that Dyche has been kept in the loop and is fully aware of the situation before we were. The staff have only just been spoken to yesterday and it would be unprofessional to be making public statements before they were given the heads up. The Pozzos know Zola well and will have had the opportunity to discuss with Zola prior to the takeover but would probably not have had much opportunity to speak to Dyche prior to the takeover. They have done pretty well with the two clubs they already have both in terms of league position and financially so I for one am not prepared to bad mouth them in advance of the full facts. I hope Dyche does still have a role at the club but can totally understand if the Pozzos have other plans. This was a forced sale as quite clearly Baz had defaulted so we were probably a stone's throw away from administration and here we are now owned by a successful footballing family not some billionaire (or an ex-bankrupt!) that wants it as a plaything for a while only to then toss it aside when he get's bored.

be fair - Sean & his agent/lawyer will be negotiating the exit terms.
'sacked' is the wrong word - you can only be sacked for performance, discipline or legal reaosns. He is being replaced, and as such negotiations around his exit package will be more complicated.

Therefore it would be imprudent fo any employer to formally announce a departure before the terms of that departure were finalised.

Of course SD will be told ahead of anything else, but until the club tell the world he is not the manager we must assume that he still holds the position - even if he does not, and the actions the club have taken or are taking are being kept quiet.

This is what I think for what little it is worth.

1) bad news sacking SD? Possibly, since he had such a good first season. No guarantee it could be repeated as it depends on players, injuries, funds etc. most of the naysayers were applauding him come the end of the season. Change = worry we know that.

2) GZ a good choice? Who knows these are exactly the same things we were saying about SD this time last year. OK he had an indifferent time with West Ham. He got them up then got sacked when they were in the bottom half and in danger of going down. Think Billy Davies, Neil Warnock and others I am sure. Championship success does not guarantee premiership skills. If GZ gets us up who says we would not also look for a better manager to keep us up.

3) Comms. These things take a while to get sorted. They will tell us when they have something concrete to tell us. Let's face it from day one it has been apparent they wanted GZ for the job so it isn't like we didn't know that. Look at Spurs and Liverpool and even Chelsea. How long was the speculation going on about numerous manager choices with probably no comma to the fans. At least we knew who they wanted. They just have to announce it now.

So am I concerned - yes always a worry at the start of a season as to how will we do. Will I be supporting the team and management - of course they haven't done anything wrong - yet! Will I be booking a ticket for our pre-season match against Udinese. Oh yes! Might as well get an early view of the loan players we will be getting this year!!

The reason the fans are voteing for sean to remain manager is because at this present time he is the best man for the job while the new owners find thier feet in the championship, then after a season they can plan to move on .Im glad I wasnt one of those giving SD stick last year I said on this site that given the circumstances he was doing as good a job as any one could. In the end he performed a miricle and would the new owners have been so keen to buy us if we had been religated. I hope what Sean did for us is remebered in years to come and his leaving dosn,t come back to haunt us.
Zola was one of my favourite players in the prem during the 90s,that dosn,t mean he,ll be any good as a manager in the championship in the 2000s.
Is this the new owners first mistake?
Buckle up fellow hornets its going to be another Watford ride and we all know what thier like!!!!!!!!!!!!

Difficult situation all round. I can understand the Italian's dilemma, however, my interest and loyalty is with watford fc the team, the culture not the owners.

The beneficent of Zola are obvious; Speaks the language, understands the culture no communication problems, big name can call on favours with big clubs Chelsea included.

Downside If SD goes will lose magnificent young manager, cool head, can handle pressure, set up great team spirit in difficult circumstances and finally knows the club inside out, that knowledge will be lost.

Hope the club do not get involved in long and excruciating negotiations on SD's exit package. It should be clean, quick and generous. Will also show what the new owners are about ie fair and transparent.

SD if he goes will have no trouble in finding employment he already has a great CV. SD wish you the very very best and all force to you and your future you will go down in watford's history as one of the best.

I expect we wil be loaned a few Udinese squad players and no doubt our manager will be told they have to be in the team.
Can't see that Sean Dyche would ever have allowed anyone else to pick his team, so perhaps better he goes now with a decent pay off than later.
Pressumably Zola is happy to be told who to play!!

what is that assumption based on?

The retunr-on-investment the Pozzos will get from an English team in the Prem will be more than either the Spanish or Italian equivalent - possibly more than both combined.

So there is no logical reason to believe they will sacrfifce WFC to help Granada/Udinese.

It is hugely disrespectful to SD that the new owners chose to act in this way by terminating his contract in such unwarranted fashion.

There seems to be much sympathy with SD but tolerance of the new owners; perhaps it is a reaction to the releif of Baz's departure that fans forgive them anything - even sacking a young, good manager who held Watford very close to his heart.

Communication is a massive part of football - very much so in Italy with a football hungry press. So its disappointing there is so little noise or explanation thus far.

Udinese have had success using the Pozzo model and I hope the same success at Watford doesn't come at the expense of our previous good values.

Good luck SD. I hope you get a stonking big payoff and find success elsewhere quickly.

The only similarity between Zola and Vialli is that they're Italian and played for Chelsea. Congrats, xenophobes.

Zola brought through youth at WHU.
Zola has managed in the top flight, taking an arguably terrible WHU team to 9th.
Pozzo is in charge of the finances this time.

This appointment is like "either I sack you now, or I wait until you lose a game and then I can sack you". Sure, we love Dyche and all he's done, and the loyalty he's shown to us so far. He's got a year's wages and has left Watford as a legend. If we had lost our first five games this year a lot of you would be screaming for him to be sacked. At least this way Zola has a whole preseason to get us sorted.

Yes, seeing Dyche try to mould a squad with a teeny tiny bit of financial security would have been awesome, but this is what Pozzo has decided. Who knows, if we win our first five games I bet most wouldn't give him a second thought.

It is to be expected however feel for Dyche. Would like to say a huge thanks for his remarkable efforts last season and I know that any other Championship club will do well to pick him as their next manager.

Good luck Sean and we look forward to seeing the best Watford manager since GT back at the Vic soon for a minutes applause.

ps: don't go off to join Fatty McPie at Cardiff, you are far better than that and will be a great manager in your own right.

Well I'm glad to see some sense prevailing in these comments. Let's not kid ourselves that Dyche would have turned down a move to a bigger club just like McKay or Rodgers if given the opportunity. There is no loyalty in modern football and that's just how it is.

If they're pouring milliions of their own money into the club, the Pozzos have the right to pick their own man to take the club in the direction they want it to go. I for one will be getting right behind the new owners and the new manager. Excruciating as it is let's all keep calm and be patient. This change will be good for our club and our club is already in a far better position than it was a week ago.

Having said all that I thank Sean Dyche for his commitment and straightforwardness last season and his achievements on a very limited budget. Leeds away was a terrific performance which will live long in my memory.

Stop whining you're on your own on this one, get over it Sbaz is gone
You obviously cannot read, shame as you would read what a plank you sound like and understand I am not a minority on the issue of no news. So Dr Oftwat, YOU GET OVER IT! I am quite happy Basinni is gone, I am not hapy at the Pozzo's acting like bozzo's on the PR side, understand!
For someone who consistently defended Baz's right not to discuss background, motives etc etc your stance re the Pozzo'ssilence thus far is bizarre. Just accept that you were wrong about Baz and you are wrong about the Pozzos
To be fair I'm surprised that we haven't had a goodwill-generating brief statement from the new owner along the line that they are "delighted to become the new owners and look forward to sharing their plans for the club in the very near future". Not the end of the world, it is only been a few days, but would have been a nice touch and helped the bonding. Any comparisons with Bas are now irrelevant.

I agree with many of the postings that the new owners could have made the statement that they are happy to be here etc. but they have not. I am hoping they will introduce themselves and give us, as supporters, an idea of their plan but I do not hold my breath.

I live in USA so have to watch all this from afar, but I wonder if the new owners have noticed how small the crowds are even when the club is playing well. "Level of support?" - maybe 15,000 might turn out to watch a really successsful side, but I supect it may be a bunch of Italian and Spanish juniors mixed in with a few old hands. May look like the USA baseball minor leagues that are used to grow talent in front of small crowds.

I'm sure the statement will come in due course, the difference is baz came from a dubious past, we never knew his intentions he had to change his name to do business even then his shares were held in a trust by another person. We had plenty to fear whereas the new owners come with a good business and football pedigree so why is anyone concerned we appear to be in safe hands.

Pathetic comment
Does anybody know who Shaun Dyche is ?

If I had purchased a business for millions I'd want to put my people in. PeopleI knew and trusted. They've been workng on this for months and I bet they became frustrated and impatient.
It is a shame for Shaun but he knows the game. I like that he wanted to stay with us and not go to South Wale but the reason was this was his first management position. His stock has risen dramatically so don't worry he will be in employment very soon.
Be patient fellow Hornets Good times are coming

Wow ... just seen the official statement .... no wonder they have kept quiet, it is a long and precise message to all of us, and I for one am very impressed.
They have said more in one statement than Bas said in the whole of his tenure .... Rock on ...

Official Statement that has just appeared on the Watford FC website from the Pozzo family is very encouraging and ticks all the right boxes.

Impressive opening statement, pushes all the right buttons (long term investment, security of the Academy, no rash unkeepable promise of Premiership football 2 years from now, ground development). Obviously it's slightly sycophantic to get everyone onside, but well worth the massively long wait (2 working days - omg, how did we survive all that time without knowing!)

Blimey. Pretty much perfect statement at this stage of proceedings. Now lets get GZ on board and give him a chance to get a team in place for the start of the season. GZ please sign here => ....................

I have supported Watford since 1960 when I was a young lad, I have seen all the good and bad days this is a bad day in my opinion, I was born in Ricky but now live in the Midlands not sure yet if I will bother going again thats how strongly I feel about Sean Dyches sacking.

Shame the SD has to go.

Ironic that he is July in the club calendar!

I looked forward to next season before, now I am more nervous as expectation has jumped through the roof of the stadium we don't have!

Not that I will get to any matches as its a bit of a stretch from Singapore (I need to leave very early).

Maybe the unamed manager will wear a gimp style mask on the touchline and we will never know if it Dyche or Zola, the manager with no name.....

Assuming no confirmations from the club due to them not finalising a severence package as yet.

Think we should all embrace this change, we may have just had the luckiest escape ever ;o)

You must be joking what did Zola do at West Ham, if you want to be a feeder club for the Italians so be it, thats not for me where you get mushy peas from god knows.

Lutondown, perhaps it maybe an idea to go and support Walsall then I can see Watford playing there in 2013-2014 season when the Italians get them relegated.

I agree it's not ideal, but maybe they have offered SD a different role and he is thinking over it.
