Palace co-chair: In Dougie we trust

Crystal Palace favourites Darren Ambrose and Nathaniel Clyne may have flown the nest but Stephen Browett has told supporters not to panic and put their trust in manager Dougie
Eagles’ fans have been a little despondent of late with the departures of Anthony Gardner, Sean Scannell, Birmingham City-bound Ambrose and Clyne - who signed for Southampton on Thursday.
Freedman has already brought in highly rated defenders Joel Ward and Aaron Martin with experienced striker Aaron Wilbraham also joining on a free transfer.
More new faces are expected though and co-chairman Stephen Browett has said the signings will come, it just requires a little bit of patience.
He said: “If a club offers you money for a player you can’t say we will just wait and see if we get someone else in, you have to take the offer when it comes.
“People don’t need to panic yet because two players have gone and we haven’t brought replacements in.
He said: “We have got targets and we are working on them. Dougie works so hard, he is never going to buy a player on a whim.
“He has got irons in a lot of fires. He has a shortlist of five or six players for every position he wants to fill.
“He does his homework. There have been times when I have said have you seen this player and Dougie has turned round and said yeah we have had him watched 20 times already, he isn’t good enough or
already on the list.”
Browett was also happy to welcome Eddie Izzard to the club as an associate director. He said Izzard and himself both started watching Palace at the same time.
“He is a typical palace fan. He started watching them with his dad and started going in 1969. He had a season ticket for many years.
“Even though he might not be able to go to many games as he spends a lot of time travelling around, he still has a special place in his heart for his team. He just wanted to help out and this is
the role we came up with.
“It is great for the image of the club as Eddie is a really respected and well known person.”
