Wayne Hennessey and Julian Speroni were all smiles after the final Premier League game of the season.

The 10th-place finish represented the joint second highest-ever league finish for the Eagles, behind their third place finish in 1990-91 and 10th in 1991-92.

The two goalkeepers’ strong relationship was clear for all to see with the Welsh international joking in earshot of the Argentinean during the interview that he is “a lot more older than me” and then Speroni rising to the bait by asking us “who looks the younger?”

Great to hear for Palace fans, but unfortunately, for the goalkeepers, there is just the one place on the pitch.

“It would have been nice to have played more games but Julian’s done really well so I can’t really complain,” said Hennessey.

“Jules is a top man, a great goalkeeper and he’s been superb. We learn every day and he’s a great guy to look up to - he’s also a great professional off of the pitch and we play a couple of rounds of golf here and there.

“It’s always nice to get a catch-up [with him].”

Off of the pitch, Speroni had his testimonial match on Tuesday night, which Hennessey was unable to attend due to international playing commitments with Wales.

Manager, and former Crystal Palace legend, Chris Coleman called up the squad earlier than normal ahead of their crucial UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier against Belgium at the sold-out Cardiff City stadium.

The match is set to be played in an electric atmosphere as the teams sit joint-top in their qualifying group.

A Wales win will put them in a strong position to qualify for Euro 2016 in France with just four games remaining and a potential first-ever European Championships.

“We are meeting up quite early,” said the 28-year-old. “We meet up on the 1st and have the game on the 12th June.

“We’ll have a good few days to get everything prepared for the game against Belgium.

“It was good to get the last two games of the season [with Palace] – it’s perfect because I’ve got that Wales game coming up.”

Those two games included the away win at Liverpool and the home win against Swansea - the club’s first clean sheet in the league since Leicester back in February.

Pardew made it clear that Hennessey would start the Swansea game ahead of the match itself and the shotstopper will be hoping to add to his Palace career total of eight appearances next season.

“The gaffer has been brilliant,” said the Bangor-born Hennessey. “Hopefully I will be here next season, if they want me to stay.

“Places at the start of the season will be up for grabs, but there’s a good goalkeeping union school here so we’ll both be working hard together.

"It means a lot to me to be playing, so hopefully I can get some more games next season.”
