Alan Pardew would like to add up to four new summer signings after delivering a top ten finish following today’s 1-0 victory over Swansea City.

Neither keeper had much to do in a fairly non-descript first half but the deadlock was finally broken 12 minutes after the break.

Jason Puncheon’s free-kick was headed on by Scott Dann into the path of Marouane Chamakh, who buried a low shot past Lukasz Fabianski from six yards.

That proved to be the decisive moment in a very end of season affair as Palace secured a top half finish for the first time in the Premier League era.

And afterwards the Eagles chief admitted the priority now was to build on the achievement and establish Palace as a regular fixture in the top flight.

Pardew said: “The chairman has got an extra £4m tonight so he is happy, but I will be trying to take it off him, every penny of it because we have a great chance.

“We don’t really need to buy and speculate, we need to try and buy a bit of quality.

“I hope that players up and down the country and in Europe have seen the potential of this place.

“It is a London club, it is the only club (in the Premier League) south of the river and we can really kick on.

“Therefore I hope they’ve taken note and want to come here because the most important thing is getting quality players to want to come.”

Asked if those plans were already in place, Pardew replied: “We’ve had some conversations. I’m trying to feel the market – it is a difficult market because next year is a big year for Premier League teams.

“I think chairmen know that next TV deal is going to be such that the pressure on us guys (managers) who are always the focal point is going to be huge.

“You will see a real topsy-turvy season next year with managers coming and going so this summer is important for all managers, including myself.”

Pardew was then asked just how many quality signings he expects to make over the close season.

“Four first team players in the first team squad,” the manager explained.

“We would take a couple of young players here and there for potential but I think three or four big players to come in to the group.”

The SE25 manager also downplayed suggestions expectations had been significantly raised in SE25 following impressive back-to-back seasons at Premier League level.

Pardew said: “I don’t think it is a dangerous thing, I think it is a reassuring thing that we should think that.

“The second year is the trickiest because you have that adrenalin from the first year.

“They obviously couldn’t quite find it in the first part of the season. They got their adrenalin and momentum back and next year we’ve got to do it for a whole year.

“There will be some pitfalls and there will be some dark days I’m sure but I think the most important thing is these set of players realise that the new players coming in are not taking their place.

“They are coming in to potentially take their place, so therefore if we can start mentally the season like that there will be real competition and hopefully we can get even better performances.”
