Alan Pardew is relishing a meeting with Liverpool in the FA Cup at Selhurst Park tomorrow.

The fifth round tie has taken on added significance since a dramatic 3-3 draw put the final nail in Liverpool’s title charge last season.

Pardew has personal history with Liverpool in the cup, having scored an extra time winner in the 1990 semi-final to send Palace to the final.

Twenty-six years later he would experience cup final heart ache, at the hands of a Steven Gerrard inspired Liverpool, while in charge of West Ham United.

But now, Pardew believes that the recent history of the meeting means that the fixture may throw up another memorable match.

“It was always going to be a historic kind of game because of the history – not just in my time as a player – but also last year in the league,” said Pardew.

“Brendan [Rogers] mentioned the recent matches after their last cup match.

“There is a lot riding on it in terms of passion and memories and it’s a game that we can look forward to.”

With the FA cup producing multiple shocks - Palace are among 10 Premier League sides still involved in the competition - should they overcome Liverpool a continued cup run is not out of the question.
