Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis issued a warning to fans and players alike in the wake of their 1-0 win over Hull City.

When Palace won 1-0 at Hull in November, they were bottom of the Premier League, but Jason Puncheon’s first half goal on Tuesday night lifted the Eagles to 14th in the table – five points clear of the dropzone.

The match was not without controversy with Hull boss Steve Bruce slamming the referee for not giving two penalties, and then sending off his keeper, Allan McGregor, in the dying moments – a decision he says the club will appeal.

But Pulis was full of praise for his side ahead of this weekend’s tough assignment at Arsenal, although he insists he needs to strengthen.

“We’re delighted, it is a massive three points for us,” he said.

“Every game is massive, so to win and keep a clean sheet at the same time is very pleasing.

“But there are 15 games to go and we still need a point per game. In the Premier League that is tough.

“We may be 14th, we may be off the bottom of the table, but we won’t get carried away, we cannot afford to. In the Premier League you cannot take your foot off the pedal.

“We have come a long way since we last plated Hull, but the battle is nowhere near over. It is so, so tight in the league.”

He added: “We’re hoping and praying that we will be able to bring in some new faces to help us out and we’re working very hard behind the scenes to make it happen.

“But I cannot criticise the players after that performance. Yes, we hung on a bit, but they were wonderful.”

Differing views: Tony Pulis and Steve Bruce in the Selhurst Park dug-outs

The two managers had a difference of opinion over a penalty appeal that referee East waved away when Shane Long appeared to be felled by Danny Gabbidon.

Bruce said: “It is about time the referees came up to answer your questions because how he has not given the penalty against Gabbidon is beyond me.”

Pulis said: “I’ve seen the replay and it looks like Shane [Long] has run across Gabbidon and not the other way round.

“From where I was standing, it looked like a penalty, so it was a good decision by the ref.”
