JACOB Butterfield has led a nomadic existence this season but hopes his third debut of the campaign maybe the beginning of an extended stay in south London with Crystal Palace.

The Norwich midfielder made his debut for the Eagles in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Dougie Freedman’s Bolton, a side he had spent much of the season on loan with.

But that deal expired at the end of December and Ian Holloway moved quickly to secure his services.

Butterfield said: “When I went to Bolton I needed a solid run of games to get me back over the injury but I didn’t fully get that at Bolton.

“I was in and out of the team but I was starting to find my feet and I was feeling pretty good.

“My fitness was improving, I was getting better and better and I just think Norwich wanted me to continue developing and getting fitter and better.

“Palace showed an interest and I said I would be happy to come down here and the two clubs pushed the deal through. “ While he jumped at the chance to join the high-flying Eagles, Butterfield admitted it is always difficult to come into a new club.

He explained: “It’s hard with that being my third debut in a year.

“I’ve only been down here for two days.

“It’s a new set of lads again and I was quite nervous but I think I did OK.

“I think we deserved to win the game.

“Towards the end we started to pile on the pressure and came close a couple of times.

“The manager was saying that it has been the case for a little while and maybe we just need that bit of luck to get that winning feeling back.

“I’d like to think I could get back into the picture but I’m happy playing games and being here and I’ve enjoyed it so far.

“The team is at the right end of the league and it’s exciting times down here, so if I can be a part of that for a bit longer than that would be great.”
