Ian Holloway was introduced to the Selhurst Park crowd at half-time on Saturday but he gave an improptu speech to regulars in the Glaziers Bar before the game.

Holloway will take charge of the team for the first time tomorrow night (Tuesday) when Palace entertain Ipswich Town - themselves with a new boss in Mick McCarthy.

The 49-year-old's arrival has whipped up a fervour among Palace fans and that enthusiasm and energy is just part of the reason Holloway opted to leave Blackpool for south east London.

He told a packed Glaziers Bar: "The reason I have come here is the energy of your owners.

"I want to play football, I want to get your young players buzzing from top to bottom. Their dream is my dream, so let's try and make it happen."

At the half-time break in the 2-0 Championship win over Blackburn Rovers, Holloway said: "How lucky are we to see a team like this? It’s fantastic.

“I think I have got goosebumps on the back of my neck to get an opportunity like this.

“People ask me why I have come here but the board sold me their dream about what they want for their club and with their energy and my energy let’s hope we can all be very happy.”
