Surrey Lions play Kent Spitfires today at the Brit Insurance Oval - and what better way for sport fans to warm up ahead of England’s next World Cup match against Algeria tonight?

The start time of the Twenty20 derby clash has been brought forward to 4pm to allow fans time to enjoy the cricket before watching Fabio Capello’s side go for glory in South Africa.

The fixture against the Spitfires is always a hotly contested game and the big hitting, action-packed style of the FPt20 game is the ideal build-up for such a crucial international football match.

The Brit Insurance Oval’s location means you won’t need to miss a minute of the football.

It is within easy reach of plenty of venues to watch the game.

In fact, there are more than 1,400 pubs within three miles of Oval tube station!

Many bars within walking distance of the ground – including the Beehive, often a traditional pitstop on the way home – will also be screening the match in full.

The Surrey Lions players are right behind the England team, too.

Club captain Rory Hamilton-Brown said: “Our focus is obviously on our match and our own performance, however, plenty of the team are big football fans and we all want to see our boys do well in the World Cup.

"Hopefully, we’ll have plenty of supporters in before they move on to cheer for the national team.”

Some hospitality guests at the Brit Insurance Oval will be able to stay on after the game and watch the England match from the comfort of the the ground’s popular Ashes Suite.

The half-time menu has also been adapted to mark the occasion.

Algerian spiced potato wedges will be available as well as the ‘Robert Green Sausage’ (it’s too hot to handle!).

Surrey’s group commercial director Zac Toumazi said: “Many of the supporters who come to watch the FPt20 fixtures are fans of all sport.

"The Fifa World Cup only comes around once every four years, so we want to give people the chance to enjoy an exciting three hours of cricket followed by a nail-biting England game.”
