An A-level student at the Whitgift School has become the youngest cricketer to score a double century in County Championship history.

Surrey CCC’s Dominic Sibley made his unbeaten 200 yesterday aged 18 years and 21 days, on the third day of the test against Yorkshire yesterday.

He was finally bowled out for 242.

The England Under-19 international, who plays for Ashtead Cricket Club, was given four days off from his studies at school to take part in the match.

He tweeted: "Got no words to describe that."

"Best day of my life no doubt, special in the dressing room after. Dream come true having a 200 partnership with Hashim Amla."

"Thanks everyone for all your messages, nice to get my name in the history books! Hopefully back tomorrow for some more."

Whitgift School has a long history with cricket, producing a number of players that go on to appear in the first class ranks - including, most recently, Jason Roy and Tom Lancefield (Surrey CCC) and Matthew Spriegel (Northamptonshire CCC).

The school's cricket ground, which has a capacity of 4,000 people, has in the past hosted to the Whitfgift Festival of County Cricket, which features a Surrey county championship clash.

Sibley is now also Surrey’s youngest centurion, and the 13th youngest double-centurion in history.
