A TEAM of cricketers playing golf helped raise vital cash for hockey players.
A mixed merry go round of various sportsmen raised £5,000 for the hockey club at Sir William Borlase's School.
The West Street school's golf day involved 80 parents of pupils and various Marlow businesses.
Steve Rider, the veteran TV sports presenter, was guest evening speaker, regaling the audience with amusing stories about his experiences playing golf, particularly at Wentworth recently.
The winners of the contest swapped their bats for golf clubs, being as they were, The Cricketers, comprising Graeme Paskins, Barry Stone, Paul Dickenson and Clive Smith.
They were closely followed by runners up The Wanderers.
Organiser, Sally Woolven was delighted with how the occasion, on May 30, went.
Having now tallied up the funds raised, she said: “It was a great day and the glorious weather certainly was a real bonus.
“To have 20 teams taking part every year really shows how supportive the people of Marlow are towards the school and Marlow Sports Club.”
Tom Woolven won longest drive for the men and Clare Dodds for the ladies whilst Mike Bridger won nearest the pin.
She thanked overall sponsor Gordons Solicitors and other firms who sponsored the rest of the holes.
