A HIGH Wycombe pupil has been named South East Student of the Year at a glittering Sky Sports Living for Sport awards ceremony at Wembley Stadium.
Shaquille Jack of Sir William Ramsay School was presented with his award by Olympic legend Darren Campbell after organising after-school sprint sessions for classmates.
Called Speed for the Future, the project began with trials to identify 12 sprinters for specialist 100m and 200m tuition, which then covered everything from sprint starts to diet.
Results were impressive, with every one of the group showing considerable improvement at the school's sports day.
Director of Sport at Sir William Ramsay School Iain Thomas said: "Speed for the Future has increased numbers at our athletics club and students are constantly asking how they can get involved. This is excellent as it is raising the attainment of more than just those students who are part of the project.
"Sky Sports Living for Sport has been great triumph for Shaquille personally. He has taken responsibility for his own learning, and that of others, developed his ability to lead and participate in a team, and discovered athletics as one of his life passions. It has been an overwhelmingly positive experience for him."
Jack is a gifted athlete himself, competing successfully at county and district level as well the English Schools Championships.
