Lee Flanagan, from Striders of Croydon, produced a very good run to win the Roundshaw Downs parkrun on Saturday. On a bitterly cold morning he covered the frost-covered five-kilometre course in 17 minutes 56 seconds, finishing 31 seconds clear of his nearest rival, Alex Penfold of Sutton & District.

Striders’ next runner home was Alan Dolton who placed 12th (22.06), while Barry Finch had a very good run to place 18th overall and first in the over-60 category (23.04).

In the parkrun at Lloyd Park, Striders were led by Damian Macenhill who placed fourth (19.36). Krzysztof Klidzia was sixth (20.50) with Steve Smith 13th (22.51) and club chairman Robin Jamieson 18th (24.41).

Striders placed 20th in the South of the Thames inter-club cross-country race at Wimbledon on Saturday.

They were led by Tyler O’Callaghan who finished 36th of the 208 finishers, covering the five-mile course in 30 minutes 33 seconds. Ben Fancourt was 90th (33.23) with Barry White 107th (34.19) and Mick Turner completing the scoring team in 123rd (35.06).

Alice Ewen placed 34th in the women’s race (39.17).

Several Striders completed the ten-mile ‘Hellrunner’ cross-country race on a tough course at Longmoor on Sunday. Steph Upton had an excellent run to be the seventh woman to finish, recording 84 minutes 57. Striders’ men were led by club secretary Chris Morton who placed 62nd in 77 minutes 42 seconds.

The previous weekend, Striders had placed 35th in the London Cross-Country Championships at Parliament Hill.

They were led by Matt Chapman who finished 135th (41.41). Chris Morton was 136th (42.00) with Barry White 150th (42.48) and Darren Piper 189th (46.25).

This Sunday (5th) Striders will have several runners in the annual Pirie cross-country race, organised by South London Harriers.
