Crystal Palace have handed Charlie Sheringham, the son of West Ham and ex-England striker Teddy Sheringham, a two-year deal with the club.
The 18-year-old has been training with the Eagles since he was released by Ipswich Town towards the end of last season and featured in a number reserve games.
But after impressing Peter Taylor in pre-season training and featuring during the club's American tour, the new Palace boss has rewarded the youngster with a long-term deal.
Palace director of football Bob Dowie said: "Charlie joined on a week-to-week trial at first but he has impressed so much we are giving him a couple of years."
