Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson fears a Bank Holiday nightmare in Newcastle could scupper hopes of signing two new players this week.

The 39-year-old Kingsmeadow chief spent the weekend in the north east with his parents, but problems with his car have left him stranded.

Dowson, who likes to meet prospective new players face-to-face, had hoped to make his first two summer signings this week, but admits he may have to wait until Monday to complete the deals - leaving them in the balance.

“It has been a nightmare. The gearbox has gone in my car and it is taking a while to get the parts in. It doesn’t look like I’ll be back until Friday at the earliest,” he said.

“I had hoped to sign two players on Thursday. Of course I can do things over the phone, but you can’t get papers signed.

“Things can change quickly in football and, while I’ve spoken to the players, if I don’t get pen to paper they can easily go elsewhere.

“It is frustrating, but hopefully it will work out all right.”

Kingstonian officials expect a Football Association decision this week on whether Boreham Wood will face charges over the crowd trouble that marred the Ryman League Premier Division play-off final last month.

Ks have argued the match should be replayed after skipper Francis Duku was attacked by a rival fan in the second-half of his side’s 2-0 defeat in Hertfordshire.

And Dowson has labelled the speed of the response from the English game’s governing body as pathetic.

“I’m absolutely fuming over this. It shows haw far we are down the ladder,” he added.

“The Surrey FA have been fine, but when it comes to the top they have not been good enough.

“To take a month over this is pathetic and shows a lack of respect for non-League football.”
