RUGBY: Wycombe began the year where they left off with an excellent 19-9 victory over Salisbury.
The game was largely fought between the two side's kickers, with the Kingsmead men applying pressure early in the game to receive the first points through a penalty kick from full back Toby Radford.
After a disallowed try, Salisbury scored points from a penalty of their own but Wycombe then settled in to their stride with a try by centre Paul Gaster after a great break through the defence down the wing.
After further penalty points for Salisbury, fly half Ian Thompson responded with a try for Wycombe, again unconverted, leaving the half time score 13-6 to the home side.
The second half opened with further penalties for both sides, but the end of the game was confirmed for Salisbury with a drop goal from Wycombe's Thompson shortly before the whistle, bringing the final score to 19-9.
Wycombe entertain Marlow tomorrow in a South West Two East derby.
A win for Wycombe would see them move to fifth place, just two points behind Marlow, but a defeat would see them slip to seventh position on goal difference.
