BEACONSFIELD Sycob boss Colin Davis has backed his new-look side to end their winless run and start climbing the table.

His charges gave promotion chasing neighbours Chesham United a tough tussle last night before Dave Fotheringham’s 41st minute goal sentenced them to their ninth match without a win.

But while there were no points there were plenty of positives for the Becky boss who has been forced to shuffle his pack after a player exodus which has seen him lose Trevor Charlery to Burnham and on loan keeper Colin Baker back to Blue Square Premier outfit Hayes and Yeading.

And five hours before the game Davis didn’t have a keeper at all until he recruited 40-year-old Slough parks football keeper Micky Weaver.

He also used his contacts to give debuts to midfielder Scott Orphanou from Northwood and striker Craig O’Connor from Burnham.

And his new-look team went toe-to-toe against in-form Chesham to such an extent that when United got a free kick in an attacking position near the end of the game half of the Chesham team were calling for them to stick the ball in the corner and waste time.

Davis said: “We worked hard and it was hard to see which team is fourth from bottom and which team is fourth from top. Craig O’Connor had two chances near the end and the game could have changed.

“There were plenty of positives that came out of it but at the same time we lost 1-0 and we have got to start winning games.”

He is hoping to sign a new goalkeeper before Saturday's game against Bury and says other new players could be arriving.

He said: “It’s going to be hard for us but I think if we can get two wins we’ll be alright and get a few more. Our performance against Chesham was 110 per cent better than it has been in the previous five games.”
