Wycombe fearing fixture congestion

WYCOMBE RFC are steaming towards a fixture log-jam at the end of this season.

Saturday’s thumping 85-7 win over Wootton Bassett made them warm favourites for second spot in South West 1 East, which would earn them a promotion play-off match on April 24.

However, Wycombe are already scheduled to play a Bucks Cup semi-final that day.

They are due to take on the winners of Milton Keynes and Amersham on the last Saturday in April, with the final at Olney pencilled in for May 1.

If Wycombe do finish second, there will have to be a great deal of hasty re-organising to get all competitions finished.

The issue is further complicated by the start of the cricket season on May 1 and the fact that Wycombe leave for a 15-day tour of Chile on May 13.

With the reserve date for the Bucks Cup Final being May 29, just hours after Wycombe land in England again, it is possible the Bucks Cup Final won’t be played at all this season.

Instead, it could be held back until the start of next year, as happened three seasons ago when Marlow beat Wycombe to lift the trophy in September.

Whenever it’s played though, Wycombe will not consider it an afterthought.

They have won the trophy for the past two years and are gunning for a sixth final appearance in a row.
