Boxing: Marlow fighters put on a show

MARLOW boxers put on a great show at their Annual Dinner Boxing Show at Court Garden Leisure Centre, Marlow, last Friday.

The Bucks club had six of their boxers in the show. First on was 12-year-old Frazer Mathews boxing at 33kg who met Bernisfield's Brown. This was an all-action bout, Mathews' better boxing skills and clever punches saw him win on points over three rounds.

Second boxer on for Marlow was 12-year-old Sam Wall boxing at 59kg, against Bulmershe's Roberts.

This was another all-action bout, with Wall showing a very tight defence before picking his punches carefully.

Roberts attacked but Wall met him with solid punches and, although Roberts did give Wall a nose bleed, he was always catching up.

Roberts had two warnings for holding and hitting and it was the only way he could hit the smart Wall, who won on a points decision.

The third Marlow boxer on was 14-year-old Lucas Dyer boxing at 51kg. He met Byrne, fighting out of the Bushey stable, but he couldn't get close to the rangier Byrne, who took a points decision.

Next up was 16-year-old Jamal Sadek boxing at 64kg against Wright of Bernisfield.

Sadek had lost on points to Wright in Bernisfield's show at Didcot but he looked composed and countered Wright with some good solid punches in the return match.

Wright, with long left jabs, had to take some solid punches from Sadek and it was a solid performance from Sadek over the three rounds, always catching Wright with solid punches. But, to the packed attendance, it didn't go down too well when Wright got the decision.

The fifth Marlow boxer on was 23-year-old Simon Emmett boxing at 60kg. This was a special bout over four rounds against Slough's Ian Bailey and it proved to be a humdinger of a contest.

Good solid punches from Bailey and attacking back body and head punches from Emmett were the order of the day with the action non-stop until the final bell when Bailey got the points decision.

The final Marlow boxer on was 17-year-old Nathan Quarterman boxing at 58kg who met Rendell.

And it was Rendell who took the points decision thanks to some excellent punching and a solid all-round performance.
