Palace player ratings v Coventry City

By Graham Moody

Julian Speroni: Struggled in the wet conditions, dropping the ball twice and being lucky to get away with it both times. It's hard to be critical though with the season he is having. 6

Danny Butterfield: A frustrating player as yet again Palace's goal came from his ball into the box but he was, also again, at fault for the equaliser, letting McIndoe get the cross in. Is it time to give Clyne a chance? 6

Jose Fonte: Probably should have been sent off for a second yellow when he tackled Morrison late but got away with it thanks to Morrison going eye-to-eye with Warnock. Otherwise he was good and got in a couple of superb tackles and blocks. 7

Claude Davis: His defending was generally good but he didn't get off the ground for the Coventry goal. He is not the most cultured footballer and takes the safety first approach of hoofing the ball miles in the air. Booked for the third time in four matches. 7

Clint Hill: Cleared one off the line when Speroni dropped a corner and was his usual committed self defensively. Still needs to offer more going more. 6

Shaun Derry: Controlled the midfield in the first half but seemed to disappear in the second as Coventry got the winds beneath their sails. 6

Johnny Ertl: His best performance in a Palace shirt and he is settling into his midfield role now. Helped to create the goal and seemed to break up play a lot on the edge of his own box. Man of the match. 7

Neil Danns: Full of running in the first half and unlucky not to score with a header that was well-saved by Westwood. He was anonymous after the break though. 5

Darren Ambrose: Hogged the limelight again with his fifth goal in five games and was Palace's main threat. Like Derry and Danns though he faded in the second half. 7

Freddie Sears: Should have scored himself but horribly scuffed the shot that Ambrose converted. Had a chance in the second half too but is shooting without conviction. He desperately needs a goal as his place in the team in under threat. 5

Alan Lee: Gave the Coventry defence a torrid time for the first half hour but then lost his rag and continually fouled them. He didn't win enough headers after that and with a stricter referee could even have been sent off. 5

Stern John (Sears, 70): Didn't really do anything and was shown up by Andrew. 5

Calvin Andrew (Lee, 70): A superb return to the first team and gave the Coventry backline all sorts of problems. Won almost every header too. 7

Alassane N'Diaye (Danns, 90): No time to make an impact.

Not used: Nathaniel Clyne, Paddy McCarthy, Victor Moses, Nick Carle.
