Epsom Hockey Club's Dean Edmeades is hoping a new business idea can inspire his side to success, writes Gerard Meagher The 32-year-old internet entrepreneur launched the website fantastar.co.uk last year, using the principles of Fantasy Football.
The site, based on the performances and results of a club's own players, has attracted more than 2,000 users from teams across the country in the past year.
And Edmeades, a third XI regular for Epsom, believes the initiative could help his side to Surrey Open League promotion after a good start to the campaign.
"Fantastar is about creating good team spirit and camaraderie within the clubs that enter," he said.
"It all makes for a good bit of banter in the clubhouse.
"It isn't just about hockey - theoretically, any sport can benefit from it."
Edmeades set up the free website with friend Rob Tong, who plays for Battersea-based London Wayfarers.
A hundred hockey, cricket and football clubs have signed up already.
