Fans are calling Charlton Football Club’s request for the EFL to examine the role communication has played in the club’s unrest as a poor ‘attempt at deflection.’

Ahead of the meeting in October club officials have asked the EFL to examine communications by the club, CARD - Coalition Against Roland Duchâtelet, and the Charlton Athletic Supporters Trust on various social media platforms to gain a ‘broader awareness of all the facts.’

CARD have been protesting against the Belgian, who bought the club in 2014, since 2016 and further reports of reneging on employee bonus schemes and rationing water at the club have increased the tension and demonstrations.

Not denying the reports the club released a statement asking the EFL to consider if the ‘cost efficiencies’ and protests are helping the sale of the club.

Fans were left amazed and confused by the latest saga in the long running feud.

Dean Neville posted on twitter:

Fans believe that their voices were finally being heard and encouraged there to be no let up in their protests.

Rebecca S posted:

With an agreement between parties looking unlikely the increasing calls for the EFL to intervene were finally announced and a meeting was arranged for early October.
