Leyton Orient duo James Brophy and Sam Ling could return to full training later this week as they step up their recovery from their respective injuries.

Left winger Brophy hasn’t featured since the 2-0 win over Maidstone United last month due to a torn hamstring, having scored once in Orient’s first four games this campaign.

Brophy has been in impressive form for the O’s since moving to East London on a permanent basis in January from Swindon Town, but faces a fight on his hands to return to the starting line-up due to James Dayton’s strong displays recently.

Ling, like Brophy, has also missed the last month after aggravating an injury sustained against Barrow in training, with Myles Judd filling in at right-back in the 21-year-old’s absence.

But assistant coach Ross Embleton confirmed that the duo could return to full training later this week and also said centre-back George Elokobi is recovering well from his hamstring problem.

Embleton said: “They are all really improving. George is the more longer term one and we won’t see him for another few weeks yet, which I think everybody expected after the injury he picked up. But both him and James Brophy have been out there today pushing themselves a little bit further and covering bigger distances in training alongside the physios who are overseeing their recovery.

“You would notice that certainly today the level of intensity in what they are doing has gone up. I’d like to think that James Brophy would be close to training again this week. How much of a possibility there is that he will feature at the weekend, I’m not sure. I don’t think we’ll be able to tell until he’s back in with the group.”

On Sam Ling, Embleton added: “With Sam, his one was a bit of a freak one really. He got a really bad whack in one of our home games, potentially against Barrow, just before half-time. Adrenaline and being in and amongst it got him through that. It swelled right up afterwards but it seemed to recover for him to come on for Myles Judd against Maidstone.

“In training, he suffered a bit of a freakish knock on the over side of the injury so like I say, misfortune led to it swelling up again. It’s ended up being a little longer than we would have hoped. The injury is not on the same level as James and George and he was working separately today.

“His intensity and the amount he can do, albeit without the ball at the moment, has certainly increased in the last couple of sessions that he’s been involved with. We hope that again, similarly to James, that he’s not too far away and coming back into training will dictate the amount of time that we may or may not see him in.”
