Dale Gorman wore the captain’s armband as Northern Ireland’s Under-21s secured a 1-0 win over Luxembourg in a friendly last week.

The Leyton Orient midfielder, who moved to East London from Stevenage during the summer, played an hour before he was replaced by Charlie Owens, as Rory Holden’s 11th minute goal secured Ian Baraclough’s men the win.

Holden was left with a simple finish after good work from QPR’s Paul Smyth, who intercepted a loose pass before cutting in and squaring for the striker, who calmly slotted home from close range.

Gorman is one of the more experienced players in the squad, having made his debut for Northern Ireland’s Under-21s back in 2015, and has made two substitute appearances for Orient this season, after missing the start of the campaign through injury.

The midfielder could be back in action tomorrow when Northern Ireland take on Spain in a crucial European Under-21 Championship qualifier at 5:45pm.

Ian Baraclough’s men currently sit in 4th place in group 2 ahead of the match, one point away from second place Slovakia.
