Extra training is paying dividends for Lyle Taylor after scoring his fourth goal of the season in Charlton’s 3-2 win over Wycombe.

The Addicks striker missed two pre-season games with an ankle injury - and Bowyer has been working on his fitness.

The new permanent Charlton manager said: “He had a bad start to the game, but the second-half was the Lyle Taylor we signed - I told him that after the game.

“I expect to see a lot more of that now. We did some work on his fitness on Tuesday and ran him extra. I think the only way we can improve Lyle is by getting him fitter.

“He missed a couple of pre-season games. He was a little bit behind everyone anyway so I just did some extra drills with him on Tuesday, I ran him and did some finishing.

“I think he looked a bit sharper today. He lost the ball six out of seven times in the first-half.

“It was him, Nicky [Ajose] and Karlan [Grant] - they were poor in the first-half. It wasn't good enough. We got the right reaction in the second-half - that’s the player we signed.

“Karlan and Lyle worked well together, they were looking for each other when they were getting in dangerous areas. I’m glad Lyle’s got another goal, it’s four in seven for him now.

“We will keep creating chances and he will keep scoring goals because he scores those horrible goals, that’s something we didn't have last year.

“I couldn't tell you one person who scored a goal in the six-yard box last season. He wants to score goals.”
