Barnet fell to their second defeat inside four days as they were beaten 2-0 at Harrogate Town in the first ever clash between the two clubs last night/

Following Saturday’s 2-1 loss at home to Eastleigh, John Still’s side were up against it in Yorkshire after conceding twice in the first half, before spurning a great chance to get back into the contest when a Shaq Coulthist penalty was saved.

The defeat means the Bees are still seeking their first National League win of the campaign and sit a lowly 20th in the embryonic table.

The hosts were on the front foot from the start, with George Thompson twice having efforts on goal inside the opening four minutes, before Cheye Alexander volleyed wide and Coulthirst had a shot saved by James Belshaw.

But as the visitors started to grow into the contest, they were to be rocked twice in the space of three minutes.

Harrogate made the breakthrough following a quick break which ended with Jack Emmett beating Barnet goalkeeper Mark Cousins with a curling effort from the edge of the penalty area.

Cousins was to be picking the ball out of his net again within minutes when the unmarked Liam Kitching doubled Town’s lead after a Joe Leesley corner had been knocked back into the danger zone by Callum Howe.

Faced with an uphill battle, Barnet were handed a fine chance to get back into the game when Coulthirst was fouled in the box, but the striker was unable to get the better of Belshaw from 12 yards.

The visitors continued to press but were unable to beat the Harrogate keeper, who denied Dan Sweeney and Charlee Adams, while Dan Sparkes headed an Alexander cross wide.
