Head coach Justin Edinburgh has praised Josh Koroma for learning from previous mistakes after his promising cameo against Barrow at the weekend.

Koroma came on as a substitute against Ebbsfleet United last Tuesday and had the chance to double Orient’s advantage when he broke clear of the Kent side’s defence, only to snatch at a shot instead of setting up Macauley Bonne, who was unmarked at the back post.

But the Orient youngster made sure he didn’t make the same mistake against Barrow at the Breyer Group Stadium on Saturday, when he was released by Sam Ling down the left, before crossing for the unmarked Bonne who tapped home at the far post to hand the O’s a 2-1 lead.

However, Orient couldn’t hang on to their lead in the end, as Raul Correia struck five minutes from time to secure Ian Evatt’s Barrow a point.

Koroma was in excellent form for the O’s during pre-season, notching seven goals in five games, but has been restricted to cameo appearances from the bench during the last two games, having started Orient’s opening match of the season against Salford City.

Edinburgh was pleased with the versatile youngster’s impact against Barrow on Saturday and praised the 19-year-old for learning from his previous mistakes.

Speaking after the final whistle, Edinburgh said: “I believe he had an impact on Tuesday night but he probably didn’t make the right decisions. He certainly played a part today (Saturday).

“But for me, there’s a positive from today that he’s learnt from Tuesday and he’s put the ball on a plate for Macauley and he’s dispatched it.

“As a manager, there is a lot of frustration but there are a lot of positives today. It’s very easy to reflect on a negative. But we’re unbeaten and have played teams like Salford and Ebbsfleet who are going up there.

“Barrow are no pushovers as they’ve got four points. So until you get 12 games in, there’s no real form and there’s a lot of guess work as there’s some real strange results at the minute. We’re alright – but we know we can do better. There’s no doubt about that. We’re looking solid without being spectacular.”
