Josh Koroma’s excellent form in pre-season continued as he stepped off the bench to score the winner as Leyton Orient fought back to beat Concord Rangers 3-2.

Rangers, who are managed by former Orient midfielder Sammy Moore, were 2-0 up after just 12 minutes, but they couldn’t hold onto their lead as a brace from last season’s top scorer Macauley Bonne and Koroma’s strike with seven minutes to play secured the O’s the win.

Justin Edinburgh handed Alex Lawless his first start during pre-season, while new signing James Alabi partnered Bonne up top for the first time. Marvin Ekpiteta and Dan Happe were both handed starts at the back.

But the O’s would get off to the worst possible start when Concord’s Billy Knott handed the National League South side the lead with just two minutes on the clock, as he cut in and sent a dipping 25-yard drive past Dean Brill.

Orient almost responded in perfect fashion through Alabi, whose effort was blocked by Tyrone Sterling and the O’s pressure continued when Bonne headed just wide of the post, after Lawless’ deflected effort went out for a corner.

Things went from bad to worse for Orient when Nana Boakye-Yiadom doubled Concord’s advantage in the 13th minute, as he got free from his marker and powered a header past Brill.

The O’s pulled one back just after the half-hour mark when neat play between James Brophy and Bonne saw the latter burst into the box, before calmly slotting a low effort into the bottom corner.

The fightback was well and truly on just ten minutes after half-time when Bonne got Orient back on level terms as he tapped home Myles Judd’s deflected cross from close range.

Last season’s top scorer almost claimed a hat-trick after he met Brophy’s cross, only for his effort to be thwarted after a great block from the Concord defender.

Having replaced James Dayton mid-way through the second half, Koroma would take just fifteen minutes to make an impact, as he scored what turned out to be the winner late on, when he bundled home Charlie Lee’s long throw in at the far post to notch his sixth goal during pre-season.

Orient return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to St Albans City.
