West Ham’s new goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski was an unused substitute as Poland crashed out of the World Cup following a 3-0 defeat to Colombia.

Fabianski signed a three-year-deal at the London Stadium last week from Swansea for a fee in the region of £7m according to reports, but hasn’t played a minute at the tournament so far, with former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny being named as Poland’s number one.

The 33-year-old had to watch on as goals from Yerry Mina, Radamel Falcao and Juan Cuadrado dumped Poland out of the tournament.

Centre-back Mina put Colombia in front five minutes from half-time when he rose highest to nod home James Rodriguez’s cross.

Poland’s Robert Lewandoski then drew a save from David Ospina before Columbia doubled their advantage with 20 minutes remaining, as Juan Quintero’s through ball released Falcao who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner with the outside of his boot.

Five minutes later and it was three as Rodriguez’s pass split open the Poland defence and released Cuadrado, who raced through and fired past Szczesny to hand Colombia their first win of the tournament.
