Brentford paid a fee in the region of £2.5m for Charlton defender Ezri Konsa.

As News Shopper revealed on Tuesday, wantaway owner Roland Duchatelet sanctioned the sale for the England Under-21 ace.

It is one of many modest bids that Duchatelet has accepted for Charlton stars during his four-and-a-half-year reign in SE7 - England international Joe Gomez was sold on the cheap.

Konsa, an Addicks academy graduate, featured 86 times for the club after making his senior debut in August 2016.

The 20-year-old was linked with Everton in the last two transfer windows - and his move to Championship club Brentford came as a surprise. He had two years left on his Charlton deal.

Last month, News Shopper was told Duchatelet would reluctantly start to employ senior management staff if Australian businessman Andrew Muir failed to complete his takeover by July.

Charlton, who are without a manager, chief executive, finance officer and chairman, play their first pre-season game against Welling United on July 7.

Muir is still expected to complete his long-awaited takeover of Charlton.
