Charlton caretaker boss Lee Bowyer says his team rode their luck against Blackburn today.

Jason Pearce’s 19th-minute goal gave the Addicks a crucial 1-0 victory to keep them in fifth after promotion rivals Scunthorpe and Plymouth won.

Dominic Samuel hit the crossbar and Ben Amos pulled off four outstanding saves in a one-sided second-half.

Bowyer told News Shopper: “It was a great win. I think you witnessed what we’re about today.

“I know I’ve said it a few times now but there was a togetherness out there against a team that just won promotion.

“Blackburn have a very good team, they've got players who have played in the Premier League.

“They’re a good side. We had a bit of luck, they hit the bar and our goalkeeper made two exceptional saves.

“I think we deserved a bit of luck because of the effort and fight we’ve put in since I’ve been in charge. Sometimes you deserve a bit of luck and I thought that was the case today.”

Plymouth’s late win over Rotherham means the play-off race will go down to the final day of the season.

Argyle travel to Scunthorpe in a crucial promotion six-pointer on Tuesday in front of the Sky cameras.

Bowyer added: “I won’t watch that. I’ll look at the result at the end. But when there’s stuff I can’t control, I can’t gain anything.

“Teams keep scoring late on, the teams who are in and around us. But I’m not really focussed about what anyone’s doing.

“As I’ve said before, it’s about what we do. We know we have to go to Rochdale and win and then we’re in the play-offs. It’s in our hands.

“I’ve just said to the lads, ‘we go and win on Saturday against Rochdale, not one team will want to play us because if I was a manager I wouldn't want to play us’.

“We’ve got everything. The togetherness and fight in the dressing room - and we’ve got players who can play and we do play football. We’re the full package.”
