Shaun Williams scored after 26 seconds to set Millwall on their way to their fourth straight league victory and kept the pressure up on the top-six.

Williams’ goal was his first of the season and secured a vital three points for the Lions in the race for the play-offs, before Lee Gregory added second just after the half-hour mark.

Millwall have now won seven out of their last eight Championship games and are unbeaten in the league since New Year’s Day.

The victory has also moved the Lions up to 8th in the table and are temporarily just a point off the play-offs ahead of the 3pm kick-offs.

Neil Harris named an unchanged side from Millwall’s club record equalling sixth consecutive away win at Barnsley last time out.

Conor McLaughlin once again missed out on the squad, with Harris opting for a more attacking bench, just like at Oakwell.

Just like they did in their last home game, Millwall started like a house on fire and were ahead in the opening minute for the third time in their last four games. Ben Marshall picked up a loose ball on the left before whipping over a pin-point cross for Shaun Williams to nod home from close-range.

The visitors recovered from their slow start and had a golden chance to level on 20 minutes as Ben Watson’s deflected strike found its way to Barrie McKay, but he could only prod over from eight-yards.

At the other end, Ben Marshall stung the palms of Costel Pantilimon in the Forest goal from a free-kick after Lee Gregory was fouled, whilst Jake Cooper could only head straight at the Romanian.

Tobias Figueirdeo tested Jordan Archer from long-range and Apostolos Vellios fired just wide from 35-yards as Forest grew into the game, but the Lions continued to look dangerous on the counter-attack and doubled their lead on 33 minutes.

Marshall, who was having an excellent game, sent over another teasing cross that Steve Morison headed back across goal to Gregory, who controlled before drilling home past Pantilimon.

The away side dominated the early exchanges of the second period, but despite their superiority, they were mainly limited to long-range efforts, none of which tested Archer.

Forest finally got their big chance midway through the second-half, but Vellios could only volley over from close-range after Archer failed to hold onto Ben Osborn’s powerful strike.

Cooper nearly hooked in a third for the hosts from a corner, but his effort was cleared off the line by Forest captain Ben Watson.

Aitor Karanka’s side continued to test the Millwall defence, but Shaun Hutchinson and James Meredith in particular kept them at bay as the Lions held on for the sixteenth clean sheet of the campaign and extended their unbeaten Championship run to 13 games.
