Macauley Bonne’s first half double meant Leyton Orient deservedly secured their first home win of 2018, as they defeated Woking 3-0 at Brisbane Road this afternoon.

Bonne opened the scoring in the ninth minute, firing home at the second attempt from a tight angle, and swiftly added his second from the penalty spot, before James Brophy made the points safe ten minutes from time, as the O’s secured a crucial victory.

The win brings Orient’s six game winless run in all competitions to an end and means they move seven points clear of the relegation zone, after Solihull Moors’ 0-0 draw with Halifax Town.

O’s head coach Justin Edinburgh made one change to the side which picked up a point against Eastleigh last week, with Bonne coming back into the team for Dan Holman up front. Both Bonne and Ebou Adams had been set to miss this afternoon’s game after being called up to the Zimbabwe and Gambia squads, but both were given permission to miss their respective international fixtures to feature for Orient.

But Orient were dealt a blow early on as the dreaded injury curse struck again, with Harrold’s game coming to a premature end in the fifth minute after he went down under a heavy challenge. Holman came on for the injured striker in a straight swap up front.

Moments later and Orient had their first shot on target as George Elokobi rose highest to meet Jobi McAnuff’s free kick, but his effort was straight at Woking goalkeeper Nathan Baxter.

But barely a minute later, Woking came inches away from breaking the deadlock, as good linkup play from Louis Theophanous and Banton saw the latter’s superb curling effort from 25 yards strike the bar with Dean Brill stranded.

After surviving that early scare, Orient went straight down the other end and scored the opener as sub Holman did well to win the ball back mid-way inside the Woking half, before releasing Bonne who fired the ball home from inside the area at the second time of asking, after his first effort was well saved by Baxter.

But the lively start at Brisbane Road was to continue, as Woking almost levelled straight away, after Charlie Carter’s 25-yard effort forced Brill into a superb finger-tip save.

Back came Orient though and it was Bonne again causing problems, as he sent a curling effort from 20-yards over the bar. Minutes later and Orient almost had a second as Craig Clay showed fantastic technique to fire a first time half-volley inches wide of the post.

The end-to-end start at Brisbane Road continued as Orient were awarded a penalty on the 15 minute mark, as Brophy showed superb skill to weave his way past three Woking players before he was upended inside the area by Joey Jones and referee Savvas Yianni showed no hesitation in pointing to the spot. After Jones was shown a yellow card, Bonne stepped up and calmly slotted the ball past Baxter to double Orient’s advantage.

Orient carved out another chance soon after, as a goalmouth scramble saw Bonne have a shot blocked, before Holman was flagged for offside before he could poke the ball home.

The frantic start to the game inevitably subsided mid-way through the half, but Orient were still looking dangerous on the break, with Brophy pulling off a superb turn to deceive Woking’s Matt Young, before the winger’s teasing low cross was fired wide by McAnuff at the far post in the 36th minute.

Seconds later and Justin Edinburgh’s men carved out another opportunity, this time it was Holman who took a touch and fired an effort straight at Baxter, after Clay had done well to win the ball back just outside the area. It turned out to be an eventful two minutes for Holman who was shown a yellow card moments later after a clumsy tackle on Young.

The O’s were to finish the first-half strongly as well, with McAnuff the next one to test Baxter, who made a low save after the O's captain met Elokobi’s headed effort back into the area.

Woking manager Anthony Limbrick made a double substitution at half time with Jordan Wynter and Anthony Cook coming on for Jones and Fabio Saraiva in a move which almost paid off instantly, with Wynter forcing a low save from Brill after a goalmouth scramble from Nathan Ralph’s corner.

The visitors carved out another chance soon after as Cook’s low free kick from 30-yards was pushed away by Brill, after Adams had fouled Ferdinand.

But back came Orient on the hour mark, with Brophy pulling off a delicious nutmeg on Young after charging down his attempted clearance, before the winger’s low cross was fired towards goal by McAnuff, who forced Baxter into a superb save.

With the visitors already 2-0 down, Woking boss Anthony Limbrick was dealt a further blow with twenty minutes to play, as his side had to finish the game with ten men after Regan Charles-Cook was stretchered off following an innocuous incident just moments after the Cards made their final change.

Orient then made the points safe with ten minutes to play, as Brophy capped off a fine individual display by rifling the ball home from the edge of the area, after McAnuff’s low cross fell kindly to the former Swindon Town winger.

Josh Koroma and David Mooney came on for the final few minutes for Orient, who had Brill to thank right at the death as he pulled off a fine save to deny Theophanous’ effort, to preserve his clean sheet.

The O’s would have one final opportunity though, as Holman’s chipped effort went agonisingly wide of the post, but in the end, Orient ran out comfortable winners.
